NBC Palm Springs invited Mary and Jon Orlin to preview the world premiere of our documentary Something To Entertain You at the AmDocs film festival. The two minute segment aired on the 6pm and 11pm newscasts tonight. (Two minutes is a lot of time on a nightly 30 minute local newscast!) The segment included video footage from the movie and soundbites from Jon and Mary.
We told anchor Olivia Sandusky what we hope viewers of the documentary might learn about our documentary subjects, artists Karen and Tony Barone. We explained how the documentary may have some surprises for viewers about the Barones' life and past accomplishments. We also talked about how the documentary might have a message for all of us.
The newscast segment can be view here in a Facebook post of the entire show. Go to the 26 minute and 28 second mark to start our segment.
A 6 1/2 minute extended version of the interview was posted on the NBC Palm Springs website.
In the video segment, we talk about
- What led us to the project
- What skills from our news background helped with making the film
- What we want the audience to take away from the film
- What comes next for us
There is also a nice write-up under the video of the story behind the documentary.
Check it out.
